ICCAM Cluster
A trans-university cluster for translational and aetiological research in addiction
The ICCAM cluster:
- is one of four research clusters funded through the Medical Research Council’s (MRC) research strategy to facilitate inter-disciplinary research into addiction and substance misuse.
- was brought together by combining the complementary research strengths from Imperial College London, University of Cambridge and The University of Manchester with the aim of
- improving the understanding of the brain mechanisms of addiction, and
- accelerating the development of new treatments based upon our understanding of these mechanisms.
- brings together a wide range of researchers across a wide range of disciplines. This large span of expertise is deliberately chosen to allow the maximal cross-talk between the preclinical and clinical scientists so that translational medicine approaches in both directions can be applied to addiction.
