What is NWFAN

The Northwest Forensic Academic Network (NWFAN) is part of the Psychiatry Research Group, in association with Mersey Care, Lancashire Care and Greater Manchester West Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust.

The Network now has over 25 ongoing research projects, a number of PhD studentships, and a strong academic programme of externally funded research. Staff at the NWFAN have a strong commitment to involving clinical staff working at our partner trusts and beyond, in research activity.

Our research

The NWFAN focuses on:

  • care pathways and transitions between health services for people in contact with the Criminal Justice System
  • screening and identification of offenders' needs and risk
  • implementing and evaluating novel services in the Criminal Justice System and forensic psychiatric care
