Speakers to debate challenges for Haiti

A group of influential speakers are to explore what the future holds for Haiti following last month’s devastating earthquake in an event at The University of Manchester on 26 February.
Organised by the University’s Humanitarian and Conflict Response Institute (HCRI), the public seminar will discuss the challenges to delivering emergency assistance in an environment where medics, missionaries and soldiers try to coexist.
Speakers include HCRI Director Dr Rony Brauman, who is also Director of Research at Médecins Sans Frontières and HCRI Deputy Director, Professor of Emergency Medicine Tony Redmond who recently led a team of surgeons in Haiti.
Also speaking are University of Manchester Professor of Social Anthropology Nina Glick-Schiller, who has studied for 30 years and Dr Eric Noji from the Centre for Disease Control (CDC), who has also recently returned from Haiti.
Emergency in Haiti: Where Medics, Missionaries and Militaries Collide will take place on 26 February 2010 at University Place, The University of Manchester from 6pm to 8pm.
