Academic Clinical Lecturers (ACLs)
Recruitment Process
- Each year ACL appointments are made between 1st April and 31st March the following year
- The NIHR puts out a National advert for posts in each region prior to 1st April
- Those with an interest in applying are strongly encouraged to consult with the Academic Programme Lead and Training Programme Director for their specialty in the North Western Deanery
- Arranging an informal discussion with the ACL Programme Director (Professor Peter Clayton) is also strongly recommended
- The North Western Deanery/University of Manchester ACL posts will be advertised shortly after the National advert
- Application forms will be available to complete online using the University jobtrain website
- Short listed candidates will be interviewed by a panel of clinicians and academics in line with NIHR guidance
- To provide flexibility to potential candidates, who may not be available for the first round, the process will be repeated through the year
Monitoring ACLs
All ACLs have regular informal meetings with their Academic Programme Lead (APL) and Training Programme Director (TPD). In addition they are required to have formal meetings that are documented to ensure satisfactory academic progress is demonstrated for ARCP. Each ACL is responsible for organising Academic Progress meetings with the appropriate people in plenty of time. These meetings should be documented using the appropriate form. All completed forms should be sent to the MAHSC ICAT Administrator, Sarah Williams, at the University of Manchester either electronically or in hard copy format. A summary of the formal meetings is given below along with links to download the electronic form:
