Cancer Studies is one of two research groups within the School of Cancer and Imaging Sciences. The group offers a wide range of state-of-the-art studentships ranging from basic to translational and clinical research.

The group is a key partner in the Manchester Cancer Research Centre (MCRC). The MCRC includes The Christie NHS Foundation Trust - one of the biggest specialist cancer hospitals in Europe - and the Paterson Institute for Cancer Research. The Paterson Institute is a leading international cancer research institute, core funded by Cancer Research UK, the largest independent cancer research organisation in the world. The strong partnership with the University and Trusts make Manchester a truly formidable player in international cancer research and care.

Students are well supported during their studies both by their academic supervisory team and by an active postgraduate training programme.

Studentships and funding

Charity, research council and university and overseas research student scholarships are the main source of funding for studentships within the group.

Postgraduate using lab equipment
The Cancer Studies Research Group has been integrated into the Manchester Cancer Research Centre (MCRC), and this adds to the existing wide range of basic, translational and clinical research projects for PhD and MD programmes on offer.
