Professional training: oncology registrar training

FRCR Part I teaching courses for clinical/medical oncologists

The Cancer Studies Research Group based at the Christie Hospital and Paterson Institute, plays a major role in allowing Specialist Registrars in Clinical and Medical Oncology to fulfil the academic side of their training. It offers several SpR training courses.

These programmes are run as five-day residential blocks and include examination workshops. Until 2008, Medical Statistics was taught on a weekly basis, which excluded external candidates. We have now combined Statistics and Radiobiology teaching to form a unique course for SpR's undertaking the FRCR Part I examination. This will now form Programme B of the Biological Basis of Cancer Therapy programme, and will be held annually in February.

For clinical and medical oncologists, our FRCR Part I courses allow students to understand and revise various aspects of advanced clinical oncology in an academic, yet relaxed setting. They cover the Royal College of Radiologists Fellowship Part I syllabus. Delivered by cancer experts, the evolving FRCR syllabus has been taught for over 30 years.
