Postgraduate

Postgraduate training within the Cardiovascular Research Group is designed to introduce early-career scientists and clinicians to the multi-disciplinary challenges of modern research.

Cardiovascular Health and Disease (MRes)

Our Masters by Research (MRes) training provides an intensive introduction to cardiovascular science for those wishing to apply current knowledge to cardiovascular health problems. The MRes is suitable for biologists, medics, biochemists, chemists, material and physical scientists.

British Heart Foundation four-year PhD

Our four-year British Heart Foundation (BHF) PhD provides tailored training for individuals seeking to establish careers as cardiovascular scientists, whether this be within academia, industry or consultancy. The experience differs from a traditional PhD in that our trainees experience project rotations and taught research modules in order to help them select the area they wish to specialise in for the majority of their research. Fully-funded studentships are available annually.

MPhil/PhD/MD training

The group also offers MPhil, PhD and MD training opportunities with a selection of projects available to view from our host Faculty Studentships and funding page. Potential applicants are also encouraged to approach academics working in areas of interest to enquire about postgraduate opportunities or suggest research proposals.

Facilities

Training support is extensive with the group playing host to a network of world-leading cardiovascular scientists and clinicians. The Core Technology Facility (CTF) offers state-of the-art laboratories, open write up areas and bioscience start-ups - an unrivalled environment for postgraduates to learn, network and advance their careers.
