About the project

The Crampon project is a JISC funded project that sets out to create a knowledgebase application to manage and maintain the complex interrelationships between curriculum content, cases for enquiry based learning and their intended learning outcomes.

Main Points on the Crampon project

  • The project is JISC funded up to June 2009 dedicated at creating a knowledgebase application for complex curricula
  • The application will be generic for any structured curriculum but will be tested on the Manchester MBChB curriculum
  • The principal users of the system will be academic curriculum development teams, students and administrators
  • The development for this project will comprise an underpinning formal model, an operational knowledgebase and an intuitive interface
  • Following the successful testing of the initial software releases, the tool will be then be validated and evaluated through a series of planned workshops in Keele University and Peninsula Medical School. This will allow the project to devise a set of rules for generalisation of the knowledgebase and make any necessary refinements to the tool
  • The project will use the Users and Innovators Development Model (UIDM) to develop the application, using OWL as the basis for the ontology and Adobe Flex as the inquiry interface
  • The completed application will made available as an open source product via sourceforge
