Langerhans' cell biology

The Langerhans' Cell Biology Group has an interest in the signals involved in stimulating Langerhans' cell migration from epidermis to draining lymph nodes. Interleukin-1β and TNF-α are drivers of this migration; topical lactoferrin inhibits migration; psoriasis of early onset is characterised by impairment of Langerhans’ cell trafficking in response to IL-1β and TNF-α. In intrinsically aged skin there is both a reduction in epidermal Langerhans' cell frequency and impaired trafficking in response to TNF-α.
