The three major themes within Gastrointestinal Sciences at Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust, University Hospital of South Manchester NHS Foundation Trust and the University Campus are:
- Whole-body clinical research
The study of gastrointestinal physiology in intact man is an existing strength and provides an integrative dimension to the molecular physiology and health services approaches of the group
- Health service research (HSR)
HSR encompasses many disciplines concerned with the development, implementation and evaluation of most aspects of clinical practice
- Epithelial biology
The focus of this research includes enteroendocrine cell physiology, nutrient sensing, mucosal immunology, and cell and molecular biology the epithelial barrier
