Ophthalmology

Ophthalmology in the Medical School is interlinked with Manchester Royal Eye Hospital (the second largest eye hospital in the UK) and research groupings in the Faculty of Life Sciences including Eye and Vision Sciences and Neurobiology. The theme has close links with BRC Tissue Injury and Repair theme.

In conjunction with the North Western Deanery we run the only NIHR Academic Clinical Fellowship programme in the UK along with a Clinical Lectureship programme. Ophthalmology research programmes span from bench to bedside and currently focus upon:
