- The Biostatistics Group has launched a series of free, short biostatistics workshops to disseminate new statistical methodology to researchers in the Faculty and wider University. For more information, please visit: Biostatistics workshops (May 2012).
- Professor Chris Roberts will be giving a Faculty inaugural lecture on Tuesday 8th May on the topic "Measurement Error and The Kappa Coefficient: From the GMC to The RAE" (March 2012).
- Professor Graham Dunn and Dr Richard Emsley will be presenting a workshop on "Correlations and Causes in Psychotherapy" at the NIHR Mental Health Research Network National Scientific Meeting on Wednesday 25th April 2012 (February 2012).

- Congratulations to Julie Morris who has been promoted to Honorary Reader (December 2011).
- Professor Graham Dunn and Dr Richard Emsley will be presenting at a meeting on "Statistical analysis in mental health trials" at the Clinical Trials Research Unit, University of Leeds on Friday 9th December (December 2011).
- The Biostatistics Group has welcomed two new PhD students at the beginning of the academic year. Philip Foden is undertaking a project on "Developing causal modelling methods for cluster randomised trials for public health and well being interventions" under the supervision of Professor Chris Roberts and Dr Richard Emsley. Imola Nemeth will be jointly supervised by Professor Graham Dunn and Professor Karl Herholz from the Wolfson Molecular Imaging Centre (October 2011).
- Professor Chris Roberts is amongst the invited speakers at the inaugural Clinical Trials Methodology conference in the UK, taking place in Bristol on 4th and 5th October. The meeting is organised by the MRC Network of Hubs for Trials Methodology Research (HTMR Network). Chris is the invited speaker in the session on "Clustering within Trials and Cluster RCTs" (October 2011).
- The second year of the MSc in Biostatistics begins on Monday 26th September. Full details about the course can be found on the MSc Biostatistics homepage (September 2011).
- The Biostatistics Group is organising an afternoon seminar on "Statistical issues in pharmacoepidemiology" on Wednesday 12th October, in conjunction with the Manchester local group of the Royal Statistical Society (September 2011).
- Congratulations to Christos Stylianou and Brian Willis, members of the Biostatistics group who have both recently completed their PhDs following successful viva examinations. Brian's thesis was entitled "The Applicability of Diagnostic Research in Different Clinical Settings" and supervised by Professor Graham Dunn (September 2011).
- Congratulations to Dr Chris Roberts who has been promoted to Professor of Biostatistics from 1st August 2011 (July 2011).
- Members of the Biostatistics Group are organising a meeting on "Time varying confounding in medical research" on behalf of the British and Irish Region of the International Biometric Society on Friday 11th March 2011. - The Biostatistics Group is organising an afternoon seminar on "Latent variable modelling" on Wednesday 16th March 2011, in conjunction with the Mplus users group meeting (February 2011).
- Congratulations to Lango'o Odondi who has recently completed his PhD following a successful viva. The thesis was entitled "Causal Modelling of Survival Data with Informative Noncompliance" and supervised by Dr Roseanne McNamee (November 2010).
- Registration is now open for the Mplus Users meeting in March 2011 (November 2010).
