Infection Control and Cross Infection Guidelines for Residential Care Homes and Care Homes with Nursing

The aims of these guidelines are:
- To provide advice for and Residential Care Home managers which on a day-to-day basis will help to minimise the spread of infection in your institutions.
- To provide contact names and telephone numbers should more detailed advice be needed on communicable disease issues.
- To summarise for the main infections, the approach to control and the rationale for recommending a member of staff’s absence from work if they have an infectious illness.
- To describe in detail appropriate action to be taken should a particular infection develop in a resident or a member of staff.
- To outline the action to be taken should an increase in illness occur within the Care Homes with Nursing or Residential Care Home.
