Bench-to-bedside research

We are based on the 5th floor of the new St Mary’s Hospital in the Research Department and work closely with clinicians and midwives of the Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. We are constantly developing our high level clinical study design and, as the need for us to conduct rigorous research into maternal and fetal health remains acute, we rely on the involvement of mothers during their pregnancy to enable us to conduct successful research.

Sample collection

At some point during pregnancy, expectant mothers attending St Mary’s Hospital may be approached by one of our researchers with a request to donate samples, such as placenta or blood, to scientific research. Any expectant mothers interested in the research we do, should contact our administration team who will liaise with one of our scientists who will show you around the Research Centre.
