Who we are
The National Confidential Inquiry into Suicide and Homicide by People with Mental Illness (NCI / NCISH) are commissioned by the Healthcare Quality Improvement Partnership (HQIP) on behalf of the funding bodies of The Department of Health, NHSSPS Northern Ireland, NHS Scotland and NHS Wales to undertake the Mental Health Clinical Outcome Review Programme .
The research carried out by the Inquiry is undertaken as part of the HQIP's Clinical Outcome Review Programme.
What we do
We examine all incidences of suicide and homicide by people in contact with mental health services in the UK. We also examine cases of sudden death in the psychiatric in-patient population.
Who we do it for
Our aim is to improve mental health services and to help reduce the risk of these tragedies happening again in the future.
Where we are
The Inquiry's offices are within the Centre for Suicide Prevention in the Jean McFarlane Building, University of Manchester.
