Research with offenders

Who we are

The Prison Research team conduct a number of projects funded by the Prison Health Policy Unit and the NHS National Forensic Mental Health R&D programme.

What we do

We examine incidences of suicide in current and recently released prisoners in England and Wales. We also examine the relationship between substance misuse and suicidal and self-harming behaviour in female patients.

What we do it for

Our aim is to improve prison and community mental health services and to inform suicide prevention initiatives.

Where we are

We are based in the Centre for Suicide Prevention at the University of Manchester.
