About us
The Musculoskeletal Research Group is part of the School of Translational Medicine, and is lead by Professor Jane Worthington. It comprises of the Arthritis Research UK Epidemiology Unit, the Cochrane Bone, Joint and Muscle Trauma Group, Human Pain Research Group and Independent Researcher Programmes.
- The Arthritis Research UK Epidemiology Unit is a unique research institution internationally, in terms of its major focus being understanding the epidemiology of the major rheumatic and musculoskeletal disorders. The Unit receives substantial core funding from Arthritis Research UK of approximately £2.4 million. The Unit also receives financial support from The University of Manchester and the major grant receiving bodies such as the Medical Research Council, The Wellcome Trust, Department of Health and other funding agencies. These resources support approximately 100 individuals working on a wide variety of different programmes and projects.
- The Cochrane Bone, Joint and Muscle Trauma Group is one of around 50 collaborative Review Groups within The Cochrane Collaboration. Members of this Group – researchers, health care professionals from many disciplines and consumers - share an interest in generating reliable, up-to-date evidence. These reviews are published in The Cochrane Library.
