Our mission

The museum's aim is to collect, conserve and store anything relevant to the practice of medicine, nursing and pharmacy. It is a medical collection in the widest sense and it is intended as a teaching resource to support and illustrate our understanding of the history of medicine, health and disease.

The collection consists of medical and nursing equipment, instruments, apparatus and some archival material, but does not include any anatomical or pathological specimens, which are housed in separate departments.

Exhibits on display

A museum, and collection of medical instruments, has existed since the Stopford Building opened in 1973. The exhibits showcase just some of museums artefacts, the full collection is kept in secure storage.
