Returning to study an area of cutting-edge research, Husein didn't need any other motivation to pursue his study. But Husein has enjoyed his course and garnered considerable interest in his work and presented his findings to experts in the USA.
Why return to study?
To be honest the main reason was that the project truly excited me. After visiting the university and speaking to my supervisors, I was convinced that I would be taking part in cutting-edge research within a field that had the capacity to change the face of modern medicine.
Why Manchester?
The reputation of the university, the quality of current research and calibre of published work that had come out from my prospective department were all signs that I would gain excellent experience in a top research facility. But while I knew that my course would take up most of time, it was important that I had the opportunity to experience other social activities, and I felt Manchester had a lot to offer.
What drives you in your work?
Working within a group that is focusing on truly innovative and groundbreaking research is enough to motivate anyone. I genuinely believe that the research I am involved in will at some point benefit the welfare of the community by delivering novel therapeutic solutions.
What has been the highlight of the course so far?
The highlight so far has been the acceptance of part of my research which was very well received. I was invited to present my findings in the USA to an audience made up of the world's most respected and accomplished researchers in my field. It was a great feeling to be able to address them and answer their questions about my work.
What do you think of the School of Medicine? Is it a good place to work?
I would definitely recommend it to anyone. The School has fantastic research facilities, an array of talented academics, and the most up-to-date IT facilities. It also has an excellent student/staff support team and many social groups and events that make the School more than just an excellent academic centre.
