Year of entry: 2012
Degree awarded: MD/ChM
Duration: 24 months (FT); 48 months (PT)
Applicants for admission must hold an MBChB degree. Applicants from overseas who do not hold a primary medical degree from a university in the UK or Ireland, should enquire as to whether their medical qualification would be acceptable to the University.
Course fees: For entry in the academic year beginning September 2012, the tuition fees are as follows:
-
(full-time)
UK/EU students (per annum): £3,828-£17,800 per annum
International students (per annum): £15,400-£29,100 per annum -
(part-time)
UK/EU students (per annum): £1,914-£8,900
International students (per annum): £7,700-£14,550 per annum
Applicants who are classified as overseas for tuition fee purposes may be eligible to pay the equivalent Home tuition fee rate. To qualify for this tuition fee applicants must hold a valid NHS contract with a University of Manchester affiliated NHS Trust for each full 12-month registration period. Applicants should note that this subsidised fee can only be applied to the MD programme and any change of programme will require the full international fee to be paid.
Please note for the majority of projects where experimentation requires further resource: higher fee bands (where quoted) will be charged rather than the base rate for supervision, administration and computational costs. The fees quoted above will be fully inclusive and, therefore, you will not be required to pay any additional bench fees or administration costs.
All fees for entry will be subject to yearly review and incremental rises per annum are also likely over the duration of the course for UK/EU students (fees are typically fixed for International students, for the course duration at the year of entry). For general fees information please visit: postgraduate fees . Always contact the department if you are unsure which fee applies to your project.

Applicants for the MD degree require a University of Manchester academic supervisor. A project proposal for the MD has to be discussed and agreed with that supervisor and approved by a postgraduate committee in the relevant research group. Prior to submitting a formal MD application candidates are strongly encouraged to discuss their research proposal with their academic supervisor.
If a suitable academic supervisor is not immediately identifiable candidates can search the School of Medicine website to identify a suitable research group and academic. All academic staff have extensive profiles providing a summary of their current research and publications. Applicants should contact the academic concerned with an updated CV and brief abstract outline of their MD study proposal
Once a suitable supervisor has been identified and they have agreed to consider your full application, the MD guidance notes should be read through, followed by a formal application which should be submitted on-line.
