Student profile: Chloé Yeung
Tissue Engineering for Regenerative Medicine (MRes)
Chloé was initially seeking a PhD within stem cell research but decided she would benefit from an initial year of Masters training to broaden her knowledge. The MRes appealed to her given the focus on biological techniques and technologies critical to tissue regeneration and repair. She felt this would provide her with the ideal platform to embark upon a PhD in regenerative medicine upon graduation.
The most rewarding elements of the course have been the in-depth research placements which have provided Chloé with the opportunity to master aspects of stem cell differentiation and the clinical application of biomaterials. In fact, her first placement was so successful that Chloe will now undertake a PhD within the same laboratory once she has completed the MRes.
The MRes benefits from the cutting-edge facilities housed within the UK Centre for Tissue Regeneration and Chloé has found the interaction between leading academics, industrialists and fellow students most rewarding. With the likes of Smith & Nephew providing modular master-classes and a number of renowned speakers contributing to the course she has built up an impressive network of contacts.
Chloé would recommend the MRes to individuals wanting to know more about stem cell biology, the therapeutic potential of biomaterials and how to commercialise research findings. She has found that the course has improved her critical writing and presentational skills as well as equipping her with the ability to critically analyse her research more thoroughly. All in all, she feels far better placed to now undertake her PhD training.
