Year of entry: 2012

Degree awarded: MPhil

Duration: 1 year FT or 2 years PT

Entry requirements:

Applicants for MPhil study are expected to hold a minimum 2:1 at undergraduate level. However, additional qualifications or research experience can compensate for a 2:2 degree under certain circumstances. Applicants holding a Masters degree in a relevant subject are particularly encouraged to apply.

For an assessment of individual entry qualifications candidates should contact the School of Medicine directly.

Course fees: For entry in the academic year beginning September 2012, the tuition fees are as follows:

  • MPhil (full-time)
UK/EU students (per annum): £3,828-£17,800 per annum
International students (per annum): £15,400-£29,100 per annum
  • MPhil (part-time)
    UK/EU students (per annum): £1,914-£8,900
International students (per annum): £7,700-£14,550 per annum

Please note for the majority of projects where experimentation requires further resource: higher fee bands (where quoted) will be charged rather than the base rate for supervision, administration and computational costs. The fees quoted above will be fully inclusive and, therefore, you will not be required to pay any additional bench fees or administration costs.

All fees for entry will be subject to yearly review and incremental rises per annum are also likely over the duration of the course for UK/EU students (fees are typically fixed for International students, for the course duration at the year of entry). For general fees information please visit: postgraduate fees . Always contact the department if you are unsure which fee applies to your project.

How to apply:

Prospective applicants are encouraged to identify and contact a suitable academic supervisor for their MPhil study prior to applying formally for the degree. Specific projects will be advertised directly linked to an academic member of staff.

However, if candidates wish to pursue a separate research study it is recommended that they visit the School of Medicine website and browse the research groups. Each academic linked to a research group will have a comprehensive academic profile providing information on their current work and publications.

Once a suitable academic has been found, candidates should email them expressing their interest in MPhil study, providing an updated CV and brief outline of their study proposal. This will be assessed for its academic merit and achievability within the degree time-frame. If agreed in principle, candidates should then apply formally online for the MPhil Medicine.

If help identifying a suitable academic supervisor is required, please contact the School directly who will be able to assist.
