Applying and registering
In 2010/11, two good applications were received for every place available on the course, so it is important that applications are presented as well as possible.
Applications
Students should apply online and are advised that the best applications:
- Contain all the required documents, including references and certificates
- Contain a 300–500 word statement about why they wish to take this course and how it will affect their personal and professional development; this statement should refer to their current role
- Are submitted in good time and arrive before the course deadline
Please note that applications cannot be assessed until copies of required certificates and references have been received. References on headed paper that have been scanned will be accepted. These can be uploaded electronically during the online application process, emailed to mph.admissions@manchester.ac.uk or mailed separately to:

Registration for individual course units
Personal Professional Development
Applications for the January 2012 PHPD programme re-open on Thursday 1st December 2011 and the deadline will be Friday 6th January 2012.
Students must apply online via the student registration system, even if they have taken PPDs on this course before. For further guidance on the application procedure, see:
Please note: After completing the first page of the online application, prospective students will be faced with a 'Create a postgraduate application' web page. On this page, please ensure that applications are for:
- Mode of attendance: Part Time Distance Learning
- Programme description: Public Health
Then proceed through the application form, completing all highlighted fields.
Applicants for PPDs do not need to provide copies of academic certificates or letters from referees, however all details on the application form must be filled in. Applicants must provide a:
- CV
- 'Statement of purpose' stating:
- Reasons for wishing to do the course
- Unit(s) applied for
Applications will be assessed by the course leader. Successful applicants will be contacted and offered a place on the unit.
