Carmel Vyas
Nurse Manager (New Zealand)
What is the best thing about the course?
The ability to study on line and not to have to attend a formal course at specific times. This was invaluable when working full time and running a family. It meant I could study any evening or at the weekends at my own pace.
Has it influenced your work?
Yes, definitely. It's broadened my horizons and given me the depth of theory needed to improve my understanding of public health. It has improved my career by creating opportunities to get jobs that I may not have otherwise been able to. The course also often overlapped directly with projects being undertaken in the work place so it made life a lot easier for study and work.
Would you recommend this course?
Yes. The course offers ample choice of modules to appeal to anyone wanting to further a career in public health whether it be a specific area or in very broad terms. My favourite module was Management as it really enthused me to become a manager in public health, to address the inequalities in health and to motivate staff to be involved in helping to make positive changes.
Additional Comments
It was great learning in a multi cultural/global classroom. Many subjects required feedback relating to work place practice and this was enlightening hearing from people living in different countries about how they were implementing public health in their own little corner of the world.
