Louise Mulcahy
Intercalating Medical Student (UK)
What attracted you to the course?
As a medical student I had the opportunity to take a year out of my course to study for an MRes in Public Health. There were a number of aspects that attracted me to this course. Firstly, the modules offered were very relevant and in many cases I felt were fundamental to all medical professions. Secondly, the course combines both theoretical and practical learning approaches and is highly flexible in relation to individual working patterns. Thirdly, the international aspect of this course highlighted an interesting and unique dimension to the potential learning experience.
How has the experience been for you?
I have thoroughly enjoyed the year so far! The tutors are extremely friendly and helpful, the online blackboard interface is easy to use and the flexibility of the course has enabled me to continue to work on my non-academic interests.
How is taking the course helping you with your career plans?
The MRes in Public Health has provided me with new skills and ways of thinking which I feel will contribute to making me a more confident and professional doctor. Furthermore, it has helped to open doors in relation to my future career by allowing me the opportunity to attend the 62nd World Health Assembly and in supporting my application for an Academic Foundation Post.
