Peter Kyambadde Programme Officer in National STD/AIDS Control Programme (Uganda)

How are you coping with distance learning, and how have you overcome any problems that you experienced?

Time: (It is difficult to fit in part time studying). The reason is that the workforce (in Uganda) is already constrained by understaffing. Many health facilities including my own are operating with less than 40% of the recommended staffing. This means that nobody else will take over your responsibility because everybody is working beyond capacity.

Internet accessibility problem: Sometimes when you have time (to work) the internet is off. Sometimes I am involved in field activities to upcountry place where I have to spend weeks. In many of these places internet is not available there. This has been a major challenge for me.

How do you think taking the course is influencing you in your current job?

My job involves a lot operational research and this course is putting me in better position to conduct this research basing on principle and reason. This is very good for me and I am proud of it.

How do you think that successfully completing the course will affect your future career?

This course is vital for my promotion and job security but more importantly (it influences) the way I do my work as a public health specialist. This gives me job satisfaction and that is very important for me.
