Teaching materials
The primary method of course delivery is via the internet, using technology that allows tutors to encourage active communication and discussion between participants on the course. This enables students to learn through easy access to a wealth of web-based materials and published articles, from the course tutors and from each other.
Teaching is web-based with a high degree of student-led learning through interactive exercises built into the web-based teaching material.
There will be opportunities for student-student and student-tutor interaction through:
- Dedicated online discussion groups
- Online conferencing
- Wikis and blogs
- Skype
- Phone between student and teacher, especially during dissertation study
Virtual learning environment: Blackboard
Students will also have access to Blackboard, the university's virtual learning environment. This flexible, integrated environment uses web-based technology to deliver learning materials and encourage online discussion and collaboration.
Why is Blackboard used for this course?
This course uses blackboard to provide a secure, password protected website for students to access their web-based learning materials and resources for postgraduate programmes in public health and primary care.
Using a PC with internet connection, registered students can access Blackboard from anywhere in the world with their university username and password.
The Blackboard area contains
- Learning materials
- Resources linked to the topics covered on the module
- Online discussionboards that allow students to interact with each other and the course tutors
Please note: students will need to connect to the internet in order to:
- Follow any links to external resources from the web pages on their PC - e.g. journal articles, other websites
- Participate in the online discussion and activities that are delivered through the course unit pages in Blackboard
