Intercalating students
Who can intercalate?
Undergraduate students on courses such as medicine and dentistry that allow students to take a year out to pursue one of their core subjects to Bachelors level also have the option of doing the Masters of Public Health or the Masters of Research. This intercalating option is open to students from any recognised university anywhere in the world. Students at the Manchester School of Medicine are encouraged to intercalate between the 4th and 5th years of the curriculum.
As this is a web-based course, students will be able to study for the MPH or MRes from any location in the UK (or abroad), as long as they have access to a PC with internet connection and a valid and regularly used email address.
How and what do intercalating students study?
Intercalating students study for one year, full time. Award of the Masters degree from The University of Manchester takes place when the student's primary course (medicine, dentistry, etc) has been successfully completed. That is, on completion of their primary course, students will be in the happy position of having both Bachelors degree(s) and a Masters degree.
Possession of a Masters degree will place graduates in a strong position to undertake a research degree (PhD, MD, etc) at a later stage, as well as being more competitive in the jobs market in general.
