Regenerative Medicine

About our research

What we do

Regenerative Medicine encompasses those individuals (both clinicians and scientists) with an interest in tissue development, homeostasis and regeneration from the level of cellular and molecular mechanisms of injury and repair through to clinical impact.

The grouping has a strong laboratory base and brings a range of molecular, cellular and structural approaches to bear on its strategy to:

  • understand fundamental aspects of tissue structure and homeostasis
  • develop new multi-disciplinary approaches to tissue repair and regeneration including the use of stem/progenitor cells on a variety of biomaterials

Research areas

The interests of the group focus on

  1. tissue injury resulting from age-related and degenerative processes, exogenous factors (e.g. trauma/surgery) and endogenous factors (e.g. ischaemia/inflammation)
  2. adult stem cell based regenerative medicine for connective tissue disorders and peripheral nerve injuries

Research programmes are focused on the following main areas:

Undergraduate and Postgraduate opportunities
