What we do

The Respiratory Medicine Research Group is part of the School of Translational Medicine. Clinical and translational research is based at the University Hospital of South Manchester (UHSM), linked to strong basic science on the main campus.

There is world-leading University of Manchester support from Bioinformatics, Genetics, Statistics, Environmental Health, Life Science, Primary Care, Pharmacy and Nursing. There are excellent new clinical and laboratory research facilities, with a wide spectrum of research spanning clinical trials, environmental, genetic, tissue, cell and molecular studies.

Translational Clinical Research Facility

In July 2008, the University Hospital of South Manchester (UHSM) and The University of Manchester were designated an NIHR Translational Research Facility in Respiratory Medicine. This award of £2m over 4 years, will substantially expand the capacity and supporting infrastructure for translating close-to-patient research through to patient benefit. In addition, a £1m capital grant is providing new state-of-the-art laboratories in close conjunction with improved patient and volunteer facilities for early phase studies at UHSM.
