I am a senior research technician in the Cardiovascular Group, based at Salford Royal Hospital Trust.

I am responsible for providing laboratory technical support for clinical based research projects. This involves devising and performing specialised blood collection and processing regimes  tailored to individual studies, and developing or improving new or existing assay protocols.

Other  support roles include performing established assays on clinical samples, subsequent data and record handling, stewarding of defined laboratory areas, routine maintenance of specialised laboratory equipment, stock control: ordering supplies and maintenance of stock consumables,  preparation of data reports for senior academic staff , maintenance of health and safety records/risk assessments and attendance and presentation at local seminars and meetings.

Biography

I obtained my ONC and BSc whilst employed as an assistant Scientific Officer for the Home Office Forensic Science Service in Wetherby. Following a move to Lancashire for personal reasons I became employed as a technician by the University of Manchester in the Rheumatology Department at Hope Hospital.

I obtained an MSc by thesis during this period, and progressed to the post of Senior Research Technician.

I currently provide technical support to the Brain Injury Reasearch Group at Salford Royal Hospital Trust.
