Role
I run a research group with a focus on antimicrobial pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics. The focus of my research is the optimisation of antimicrobial therapy. We have a wide range of experimental models of infection, and use these to explore optimal regimens for human disease. I use a range of mathematical modeling techniques including population pharmacokinetic modeling, PK-PD modeling and Monte Carlo simulation. I am interested in individualisation of antimicrobial therapy for humans and am funded by NIHR to develop software so this can be achieved in clinical settings. I am a member of the subcommittee for antifungal agents for the European Committee of Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing (EUCAST). My clinical interests and roles include tuberculosis, infectious diseases supportive care for solid organ transplant recipients and the care of patients with invasive fungal infections. I am a consultant physician for the National Aspergillosis Centre.

Research
I am an Infectious Diseases physician with a research interest in animicrobial pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics. I employ a wide range of experimental systems to understand drug exposure-response relationships. My work is translational in nature- there is always an attempt to address clinically relevant questions in experiemental models and bridge these results to humans. I use a range of pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic modelling techniques including population PK and Monte Carlo simulation. I am interested in the individualisation of antimicrobial therapy using stochastic control. The diseases of interest include invasive fungal infections (invasive aspergillosis, invasive candidiasis and cryptococcal meningitis) and bacterial pneumonia. My work is funded by the Medical Research Council and the National Institute of Health Research. I also have a range of collaborative projects with industry.
