Research
Dr McMahon’s research interests include the development of trace analytical methods and instrumentation based on mass spectrometry, laser spectroscopy and chromatography. His recent work has involved the development of orthogonal acceleration time-of-flight mass spectrometry instrumentation and applications of atmospheric pressure, photoionization mass spectrometry.
His current research interests include:
- the development and use of radio-labelled molecules for Positron Emission Tomography, both in product quality control and metabolite analysis,
- the development of automated chemistry rigs for remote PET radiotracer synthesis and
- imaging MALDI mass spectrometry of tissue samples
Biography
Dr Adam McMahon studied at The University of Oxford, The University of Bristol and Dalhousie University in Canada , where he gained a B.A. (Hons) in Chemistry, an M.Sc. in Analytical Chemistry and a Ph.D in Chemistry.
In 1988 he became Harwell-Wolfson Research Fellow, based at the UKAEA's Harwell Laboratory and Wolfson College, Oxford. Then in 1991 he became Manager, Research and Development in the AEA Technology's Analytical Sciences Centre at Harwell.
