Role
Research Associate managing data within the Manchester arm of a multisite trial of digital breast tomosynthesis
Teaching
Tutor on the "Theories and applications in bioinformatics" module of the University of Manchester distance-learning Bioinformatics MSc 2007-2008, 2008-2009 and 2009-2010.
Demonstrator for various undergraduate bioinformatics and statistics modules 2008-2009.
Produced a scientific posters project on microbes for year 12 pupiles at Levenshulme High School for Girls through the Researchers in Residence programme in 2009.
Provided training in using the project wiki while a research associate on a bovine trypanotolerance project at the University of Liverpool (2006).
Produced a histology CAL package for medical students at the University of Manchester as my BSc 3rd year project (1999) - still in use at the University of Keele
Biography
I'm an experienced bioinformatician with skills in software development (Java, perl, SQL, Matlab, XML, PHP, PipelinePilot etc), data visualisation and analysis.
I have used a wide range of tools and techniques for processing and analysis of sequence data, microarray data, text mining, QTL data and combining diverse data types, as well as mathematical modelling and generating/using simulated data.
I also have a keen interest in scientific communications, both writing and presenting, for academic and lay audiences, including tutoring / training / assisting teaching.
In this new role, I aim to extend my skill-set to include clinical informatics.
