 Gavin Brown PhD

Head of Radiosynthetic Chemistry

Research

Gavin's past research interests have included the synthesis of novel radiolabelling agents and cyclisation reactions of imidazole derivatives under the influence of microwaves.

His current interests involve working with colleagues at the WMIC to develop new chemistry synthesis systems for radiochemistry procedures under aseptic conditions.

Biography

Dr Gavin Brown graduated from The University of Reading where he gained a B.Sc (Hons) degree in Chemistry.

He trained as a radio chemist at the MRC Cyclotron Unit, Hammersmith Hospital, where he pursued research studies into the radio-labelling of anticancer drugs for PET.

In 1999 Gavin was awarded a PhD by Imperial College, London. In 2001 he was recruited by GE Healthcare, to help introduce fluorine-18 radiochemistry into their research programme, and in January 2005 he joined the WMIC where he heads the radiochemistry production team.
