Role
Emma is a software engineer developing health information systems for the CLAHRC project. CLAHRC, more formally known as NIHR CLAHRC for Greater Manchester, is a collaboration between the University of Manchester and the 19 NHS Trusts across Greater Manchester to provide research into health care for people with long term conditions – such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes and kidney disease. Emma’s role is focused on applying state of the art technologies to the analysis of NHS care pathways, and as such is involved in the design and implementation of software that can be used to measure inequalities in health care and to simulate the health impacts of changes to care pathways.
Biography
Emma graduated from UMIST (University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology) in June 2003 with a BEng (Hons) in Software Engineering with Industrial Experience. She spent her industrial experience working for an investment bank in London, and was responsible for delivering a number of client-server and web-based applications to business and technology areas across the firm.
Before joining the University of Manchester in January 2009 she spent 5½ years working in the telecommunications industry, designing and developing Symbian OS applications for major mobile phone manufacturers. During this time she fulfilled a variety of roles including Software Engineer, Technical Lead and Technical Author/Presenter and spent a number of months living in Seoul, South Korea.
Emma’s interests include performance cars, rock climbing and travelling.
